INSTALLATION AND IMPLEMENTATION INSTRUCTIONS

The following is a guide to the installation and overall implementation of RemoteScope.

The demo version is a full working version of the software, which can be used for trial purposes for a full 2 weeks. The installation of the demo and the ‘licensed’ version are the same.

Although RemoteScope is easy to install, and should take only 15 – 20 minutes to get up and running, we recommend that you follow these instructions completely. By following the directions below it is easier to ensure that all the components of the program are in place to ensure the best use of the software.

INSTALLATION OF CONSOLE:

  1. Install Shield Wizard screen will appear – click ‘Next’
  2. License Agreement screen will appear – click ‘Next’
  3. Customer information screen will appear
    1. enter customer name
    2. enter company name
    3. enter serial number (serial number is on the jewel case and is case sensitive.

    In the case of a demo version you will be require to enter the ‘user name’ and ‘password’ – which are remote’ and ‘scope’.

  4. Choose destination path. It should read Programfile/Remotescope folder – click ‘Next’
  5. ‘Select Program Folder’ screen will appear – click ‘Next’
  6. ‘Start Copying Files’ screen will appear. Check to see if setup info is correct – click ‘Next’
  7. It will start copying files to your console. Your may be asked to restart your computer, if so, reboot before proceeding.

CONSOLE INTERFACE

The Console screen has four different sections.

  1. Menu Bar – contains shortcuts to functions
  2. Feature Functions – contain the following:
    a. Client Group – this is where groups and clients are created and organized.
    b. Software Distribution – used to remotely install software to single or multiple machines at a scheduled time.
    c. Inventory – view inventory of different hardware and software statistics on all your clients, including the local console machine.
    d. Report – this will give a detailed report based on predefined templates for organizing and managing you inventory.
    e. Log – this displays numerous activity logs, base on inclusive dates showing error logs, operational logs and other miscellaneous activities.
  3. Data Info Screen – will show information that will correspond with the feature function you are currently doing.
  4. Activity Log – this is a real time log and will show real activity while the console is running.

CLIENT INSTALLATION:

Installation of clients may be done in a couple of ways.

  1. Go to the start menu your task bar -> programs -> remotescope -> client package. It should look like this; C:\program files\remotescope\console main\setupclient –
  2. Email this attachment to your users.

    OR

  3. Share this folder as an open resource folder and direct your users to remotely setup.exe
  4. To Share -> go to the task bar below -> go to ‘console main’ -> setup client -> sharing screen will pop up – click OK.

  5. Data information screen – will show information that will correspond with the feature function you are currently working on.
  6. Activity Log – the activity log is on real time and will show real activity while the console is running.

CREATING AND MANAGING GROUPS & CLIENTS

  1. Double click on RemoteScope icon.
  2. First time you run RemoteScope after the activation wizard you will be prompted to enter the network segment. This is for networks that use thcp servers on dynamic IP addressing.
  3. After you have entered IP ranges click ‘Add’
  4. After you have entered all your network segments – click ‘OK’

There are two ways to add a group or clients onto your system.

  1. You may go to the menu bar and click ‘Client’

OR

  1. Right click on the data info screen
  2. Click ‘New Client’

    You may enter display name, computer name, and IP address or click the box ‘Select From Network’.

    Your entire network tree will be displayed.

    Once you choose a client from your network, the display name, computer name, and IP address boxes will be filled in automatically. You have the choice of changing or adding more info in the description box.

  3. Click ‘Add’
  4. Click ‘OK’ to continue
  5. Click ‘Done’ if you have finished adding your clients

    A new client icon should now appear in your system pane.

    a) a client icon with a green dot means that the client is connected
    b) a client icon with a green and red dot means that the client is connected and a task is being processed
    c) a client icon without any dots means that the client was added to the console but the client is not connected. This can be because the client program is not running or the machine is off

FILE TRANSFER

From the main RemoteScope Console

  1. Select the client or clients simply by clicking on the specific computer you would like to transfer files to.
  2. Right click and choose ‘File Transfer’
  3. The screen will show 2 different sections. The top section is the local machine file structure with all the available resource. The bottom screen is the clients’ machine selected. (The checkmark next to the icon means that this is the client you chose for the file transfer.)

  4. Click the ‘File Transfer’ icon (first icon on the menu bar) or hit F2

  5. It is similar to windows explorer in which you just ‘drag and drop’ the folder you would like to transfer.

You can also create folders for your clients -

  1. Right click on client’s window and select ‘New Directory’ to create a new folder.

When you need to transfer file from console to multiple clients:

  1. Click on ‘Distribution’ button (second icon on the menu bar) or F3
  1. By default the destination directory is set to c:\temp\ - this may be changed by right clicking on the client and choosing a distribution path.
  2. A new window will appear showing the tree file structure of the selected client, and from there you can choose what you would like the destination path to be. You may reset it back to default by right clicking on the client icon and choosing ‘Reset’.

SENDING INSTANT MESSAGES

You may send instant messages to one or multiple clients.

  1. Choose the client/clients you would like to send a message to by clicking on their icon.
  2. Right click
  3. Click ‘Send Message’
  4. Type in the message and click ‘Send’. All clients will have the option to reply.

REMOTE CONTROL

  1. Right hand click on the client and select ‘Remote Control’ > the client’s desktop screen will appear.
  2. There are 3 options to remote control

    a) full
    b) share
    c) view

You may view several clients at once, but remember that it will only be a view option and you may not take control of their desktop.

SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION

There are three distinct processes in accomplishing software deployment. Creating an ISS file is the first step.

Create an ISS File – this file is used to record the installation of the software thus there is no user intervention. "-r" is a command switch to use next to the installation file of the program if install shield is the method of installation.

  1. Find software from Explorer – ie. Acrobat Reader.
  2. Click on Acrobat Reader
    • locate the file ‘setup.exe’
    • go to MS-DOS prompt
    • type in "-r" next to the setup command line

    Follow the installation process as prompted by the program.

    Once Acrobat Reader is done, search for the ISS file that had just been created – it usually sits in the ‘Windows’ path.

    Go to ‘Find Folders’ and search for ‘setup.iss’.

    Copy and paste the folder so that it may be accessible and easy to find.

    Create New Distribution Package

    1. Go to ‘Software Distribution’
    2. Go to ‘Packet’
    3. Then select ‘New Packet’

     

    A new distribution packet window will appear;

      1. fill out packet name
      2. fill out description
      3. click ‘New’ to define the software to be distributed
      4. A new window will appear ‘New Distribution Product’

      5. fill in product name
      6. choose installation ‘By InstallShield’

     

    - in command line – type in the command of the installation file to start the installation (for acrobat reader it is ‘setup.exe.’)

    - click on ‘add file’ to click on all the installation files needed to install the program. Search for the source files and select them all. The click ‘add’ to include them to your distribution package. A confirmation window will prompt you after all the files have been added. Click ‘OK’.

    - close window

    You will now return to you ‘Distribution Product’ screen, showing the recent configuration that has just been done. Click ‘OK’ to continue.

    You will now see the newly created product software. Click on the packet and then click ‘New’ on the screen to the right of it.

    ‘New Distribution Mode’ will appear;

      1. ‘Mode Name: ________’ type in typical
      2. ‘ISS File: _______’ > click ‘Browse’ to locate the ISS file created earlier. Select it.
      3. Click ‘OK’ when done.

    You should be able to see the software to be installed and the mode of installation.

    Click ‘OK’ when done.

    Distributing the Packet Immediately/Scheduled

    1. Right click on the packet and click ‘Distribute’.

    A window prompt will appear in which you select the clients you would like to distribute to.

      • Click ‘Start’

    It will display the software deployment. Once finished you may view the status of deployment in the ‘Distribution Record’ found in the Software Distribution Tree.

    Scheduled Distribution

    1. Click on ‘Schedule’ under software distribution.
    2. Right click on the right pane.
    3. Click ‘New Schedule’ – new distribution schedule will appear.
      • type in the name
      • choose the packet and the clients
      • choose the date and time

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE INVENTORY

If this is the first time you are getting inventory from a machine, make sure you hit ‘refresh’.

      click ‘Console’ on Menu bar

      click ‘Inventory’ then ‘refresh’

There are 3 different sections the inventory is categorized in.

      Operating Systems

      Software

      Hardware – based on specific devices if you like

REPORT GENERATOR

      Click ‘Report’ > ‘Template’ (there is a brief description of the template under the column description
