1. Use the arrow keys to select SERIAL PORT TESTS and press ENTER.
2. Three windows will open. In the box on the far right, highlight SELECT PORT and press ENTER, then select PORT 0.
3. Use the arrow keys to select RUN LOOPBACK TEST and press ENTER.
4. A data window will open, showing a series of characters rapidly flashing through as Micro-Scope performs the serial port test. When this is completed, the two left hand windows will show the results.
5. Press ESCAPE and return to SELECT PORT. Now select PORT 1.
6. Repeat the Loopback Test for Port 1 as there should be two serial ports installed on your system.
7. Press ESCAPE to return to the DIAGNOSTICS pull-down menu.
8. Use the arrow keys to select "PARALLEL PORT TESTS" and press ENTER. Then use the arrows to select "SET PARAMETERS" and press ENTER.
9. Highlight SELECT PORT, press ENTER then select PORT 1, and press ENTER, then select LOOPBACK. You will have a choice of Internal or External loop-back test. Select INTERNAL and press ENTER, then press ESCAPE. Keep in mind we selected Port 1 for the test and not Port 0.
10. Now use the arrow keys to select RUN LOOPBACK TEST and press ENTER.
11. The parallel port test is nearly instantaneous. Test results will be displayed in two data windows on your screen. There is only one parallel port, so there is no need to repeat this test.
There are a number of other tests that can be performed on the serial and parallel ports, as well as on the rest of your system. You have completed all the tests that are necessary at this point to optimize your system, and to make sure it’s properly set up.
You can now quit Micro-Scope and reboot your system. And you’re ready to install your operating system!
