Micro-Scope e-book

LOCATING YOUR PORTS:

Collecting data about the motherboard and system resources is one of those things that is very easy and quick with a good hardware diagnostic, and vary difficult or time consuming without one.

Remember that you can always refer to the Microscope manual while doing these exercises.

  1. Insert your Micro-scope CD/floppy into the drive and power up the system.

  2. When prompted Press <1> to load the main diagnostic program.

  3. From the System Configuration menu select ‘System Information’. In the second section of the first System Information screen find and write down this information:
  4. Processor Type: ____________________

    Processor Speed: ____________________

    Bus Types (All): ____________________

    Bus Speed: ____________________

  5. Escape’ from System Information and go to Active ROM Search. On a separate sheet of paper white down all ROM addresses and what they are used for.

  6. Next go to Device Assignments. Press the ‘C’ key to update the list of IRQs. On that same sheep of paper write down which IRQs are in use. Then write down all I/O ports listed and what they are used for. If the screen lists any DMAs in use, write these down as well.

  7. Put the paper in a convenient place for future reference.
